Concerning conference participation, up to 3 ECTS points can be granted for the 30 ECTS study program. This decision is motivated by the fact that conference attendance, including presentation of one’s research results, is a natural part of a PhD and serves to fulfill the compulsory research dissemination as stipulated in the Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme for the Universities.
To earn ECTS, the student must make an overview of the hours spent on the activity. This includes the actual time spent at the sessions (talks and poster and related events) at the meeting and possible preparation of a poster or a talk. In addition, after the conference, the student MUST provide some knowledge-sharing. This can be an oral presentation at a group meeting where the student presents what she/he actually learned at the conference: Exciting talks, new techniques, and ideas for her/his own research project inspired by talks and/or discussion with conference participants. Alternatively, the knowledge-sharing can be a written report made available for the supervisor and possible also for the group.
To be eligible for ECTS credits, a description of the hours spent on the conference activity must be approved (preferably in advance) by the main supervisor and the Head of the chemistry PhD program (Henrik Stapelfeldt).
Assume that 1 ECTS amounts to 25 hours.
