- If you are the one to initiate the alarm, you are automatically the first evacuation leader. Everyone can be evacuation leaders and assembly point leaders.
- Follow the instructions on the papers in the boxes with the evacuation vests.
- The most important is to get everybody out in a hurry, but in good order.
- Close windows and doors on your way out, but do not lock the doors.
- Leave the building by the nearest exit. It may be another one than you normally use!
- Go to the meeting point and wait for information. The leaders coordinates when they arrive.
- The meeting point is at the parking lot between Physics and Chemistry.

Call 112 (press 0 first if you are calling from a land line) and state:
Fire at Aarhus University, Department of Chemistry
Langelandsgade 140, building 510, 511, 512 or 513.
Be ready to give information about injured persons, what is burning and which telephone number you are calling from. It is the fire brigade's job to put out the fire, however, it is important to act correctly until the fire brigade arrives in order to minimize the damages.
- Get everybody out of the burning building/room. Use the stairs - DO NOT use the lift
- Close windows and doors. In this way, oxygen is prevented from feeding the fire, and the scope of the fire can be reduced
- Warn people close to the burning room. This includes people next to the room and people on the floor above.
NB! It is dangerous to force your way into smoke-filled and burning buildings. This is only a job for specially trained fire fighters.
Make sure that the fire brigade will be met outside the building and immediately be informed of:
- The location of the fire
- The scope of the fire
- Whether there are people left in the burning area
- Whether there are special circumstances to be aware of - pressure bottles, chemicals etc.
- Remember to inform the Switchboard/security staff that the fire brigade has been alerted
Emergency shower is placed above the door in all laboratories.
Fire blankets are found in all laboratories.
Fire extinguishers and hand pumps are placed in all corridors. Fire extinguishers are placed in all experimental laboratories.
Be aware of the placement and the use of these before it is too late!
The risk of fire, and the consequences of a fire, when it occurs, can be minimized significantly
- Tidy up! Avoid waste, packaging, chemical and solvent spill in laboratories and fume cupboards
- Avoid accumulation of filled waste cans
- Solvent bottles that are not used must be placed in fume cupboards
- Be aware of sources of ignition (heating mantles, blowlamps, hot plates)
- Be aware of inflammable and pyrophoric substances
- Be aware of smoke formation and increase of temperature
- Turn off equipment when it is not used
- Put out even small fires as soon as they break out
