In case of FIRE, ACCIDENT, BURGLARY/VANDALISM you need to do the following:

FIRE

FIRE

  • Call 112 (press 0 first if you are calling from a land line)
  • Specify where it burns
  • Specify the precise address and give your name
  • Give the phone number you are calling from
  • Make sure that the fire brigade will be met outside the building and immediately be informed of:
  • The location of the fire
  • The extent of the fire
  • Whether there are still people left in the burning areas
  • Whether there are special circumstances to be aware of - pressure bottles, chemicals etc.
  • Notify the buildings inspector/buildings supervisor, the head of department and the safety supervisor. Please also see the notices posted in the corridors
  • Quenching a fire is the task of the fire brigade, but it is important to act properly until the fire department reaches out to save any threatened people and limit the amount of fire.
  • Get everyone out of the burning room / building. Use the stairs - not the elevator.
  • Close windows and doors. This prevents access of oxygen to the fire and limits the extent of the damage.
  • Warn people near the burning room. This applies not only to the rooms on the same floor but also on the floor above.
  • Follow the instructions on the wall-mounted holders for evacuation equipment
  • NOTE! It may be fatal to enter smoking and burning buildings. It should be left to the fire service's specially trained crew.
  • Emergency shower is located above the door in most laboratories.
  • Fire blankets are available in all laboratories or just outside the laboratory.
  • CO2-extinguishers and hand sprayers/fire hoses are placed on all floors.
  • Familiarize yourself with the location and use of these before it's too late!

  • Prevention of fire

  • The risk of fire, and the consequences of a fire, when it occurs, can be minimized significantly
  • Tidy up! Avoid waste, packaging, chemical and solvent spill in laboratories and fume cupboards
  • Avoid accumulation of filled waste cans
  • Solvent bottles that are not used must be placed in fume cupboards
  • Be aware of sources of ignition (heating mantles, blowlamps, hot plates)
  • Be aware of inflammable and pyrophoric substances
  • Be aware of smoke formation and increase of temperature
  • Turn off equipment when it is not used
  • Put out even small fires as soon as they break out

ACCIDENT

    • Call 112 (press 0 first if you are calling from a land line)
    • Specify what has happened and how many people are involved
    • Specify the precise address and give your name
    • Give the phone number you are calling from
    • Make sure - if possible - that the the ambulance service/police will be met outside the building and immediately be informed whether there are special circumstances to be aware of - e.g. pressure bottles, chemicals etc.
    • Notify the safety supervisor and the work environment representative

  • Minor personal injuries

    For standard opening hours (8-16) you should contact your personal doctor who will either take you in for a consultation or send you to the Casualty ward at Skejby hospital. You can find the phone number for your doctor on the yellow health card. 

    Outside opening hours you should call the Casualty ward at Skejby Hospital: 7011 3131

    Access to the causulty ward is prohibited without prior contact to either doctor or the Causulty ward by phone. 

BURGLARY/VANDALISM

  • Call 112 (press 0 first if you are calling from a land line)
  • Specify what has happened and how many people are involved
  • Specify the precise address and give your name
  • Give the phone number you are calling from
  • Notify the buildings inspector/buildings supervisor

WATER DAMAGE

In case of water leakage

  • Turn off the water, if possible.
  • Contact the respective supervisors. Find contact info on the door sign.
  • Limit the accident
    • Cover equipment with f.inst. plastic sheets
    • Turn off electric equipment
    • Wipe up the water
  • Contact Building Services and Damage Services, they will install a drying machine in the affected rooms.

Remember to check the rooms directly under the affected room(s). The water may have run downwards.

Notify Security manager, Head of Department and Building services immediately.

Prevention of water damage

  • Use recycled cooling water, not tap water.
  • Check hose connections on equipment and arrangements.
  • Use the right hoses, hose clips and methods.
